MAHWAH, N.J. -- Elaine Freed Lindenblatt, daughter of Red Apple Rest founder Reuben Freed, will share images and stories from her new book "Stop at the Red Apple" Thursday at the Ramapo Reformed Church.
Opened in 1931 by Freed, the Red Apple Rest in Southfields, Rockland County, was a well-known stop on Route 17 for many on their way to and from the Catskills, Albany, Lake George and other upstate destinations. Ross C. Nappi, 79, Valley Cottage Resident
VALLEY COTTAGE, N.Y. -- Valley Cottage resident Ross C. Nappi died on his birthday, Monday, Feb. 1. He was 79.
Born in Yonkers, Nappi served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Yonkers.
Nappi is survived by his children, Scott Nappi and his wife Maria, and Faith Bavas and her husband Nick; grandchildren Alyssa and Gianna Nappi and Charlotte Bavas; and brother Ralph Nappi.
He was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte Nappi, and his parents, Frank and Rose (Salzano) Nappi.
Garfield Breakfast Supports Elmwood Park-Based Nonprofit
GARFIELD, N.J. -- Help support kids fighting rare diseases through a fundraiser breakfast on Sunday, Feb. 28, at Applebee's. The breakfast supports the Let Them Be Little X2 Foundation, run by Jeff Leider of Elmwood Park. His two sons, Jason and Justin, were diagnosed with Hunter syndrome five years ago. After a lot of effort, both are in clinical trials and doing well, Leider said.
The breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, eggs and beverage -- your choice of coffee, tea, juice or soda. Adult tickets are $12, children 12 and younger are $6, and 3 and younger are free.

Marguerite Keenan, 74, Lifetime Eastchester Resident
EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- Marguerite Mary Keenan, a lifetime resident of Eastchester, died Friday, Jan. 29. She was 74.
Keenan graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel, Loyola University, with a degree in medical technology, and from St. John's University with a master's in medical technology. She worked at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville for 41 years. She retired as blood bank supervisor in 2004.
She was a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church.
Keenan was predeceased by her parents, Elvera and John Keenan.

Ann Voss, 77, Patterson Resident
PATTERSON, N.Y. -- Patterson resident Ann Voss died Friday, Jan. 29. She was 77.
Voss received a bachelor's in psychology from Mercy College. She was a licensed practical nurse with PARC until 1999.
Visiting hours were scheduled from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Feb. 6, at Dwyer Funeral Home, 23 South St., Patterson. After the visitation, a memorial and reception were scheduled at the Brewster Elks Lodge, Route 22, Brewster, from 1-3 p.m.

Mahwah Museum President John Edwards Will Discuss 'Boroughitis' At Talk
MAHWAH, N.J. -- Mahwah Museum's Vice President, John Edwards, will present a gallery talk on Sunday, March 13, as part of the new exhibit "Hohokus Township: Mahwah and Boroughitis in Northwest Bergen."
The talk will cover the boroughs of Allendale and Ramsey, their formation from Hohokus Township and some of the causes of "boroughitis." Edwards will also discuss some of the things that make the boroughs unique, like the Celery Farm, the Fell house, the Old Stone House, and the influence of the Paterson and Ramapo Railroad on the growth of the boroughs.
