Opened in 1931 by Freed, the Red Apple Rest in Southfields, Rockland County, was a well-known stop on Route 17 for many on their way to and from the Catskills, Albany, Lake George and other upstate destinations. Ross C. Nappi, 79, Valley Cottage Resident VALLEY COTTAGE, N.Y. -- Valley Cottage resident Ross C. Nappi died on his birthday, Monday, Feb. 1. He was 79. Born in Yonkers, Nappi served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Yonkers. Nappi is survived by his children, Scott Nappi and his wife Maria, and Faith Bavas and her husband Nick; grandchildren Alyssa and Gianna Nappi and Charlotte Bavas; and brother Ralph Nappi. He was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte Nappi, and his parents, Frank and Rose (Salzano) Nappi.
