$500,000 Federal Grant to Help Homeless Youth in Bridgeport Area BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- U.S. Sens. Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal and U.S. Rep. Sherman's Annual Town Meeting Scheduled For Saturday SHERMAN, Conn. -- The Town of Sherman will hold its annual meeting at Mallory Town Hall on Saturday.The meeting will act on the following matters: To receive and act upon the Annual Report of the Board of Selectmen, Board of Education, Tax Collector, and any other officer or organization having a report to offer. To authorize an expenditure not to exceed $5,500 from the Capital Non-Recurring Fund for the relocation of all computer and electrical equipment from the Boiler Room into the Assessor’s Office. Candlewood Lake EnCon Officer Promoted To Sergeant DANBURY, Conn. -- Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) recently announced that its Environmental Conservation (EnCon) Police has promoted Officer Greg Ulkus and Officer Matthew Stone to the rank of sergeant.The EnCon Police also added a new team to the Division’s K-9 Unit, Officer Patrick Kiely with his partner, Baloo, a Labrador retriever. New Canaan, It's Time To Get Ready For Leaf Pickup NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Starting Monday, Oct. 31, vacuum trucks will pick up the leaves raked to curbside by homeowners in those areas of town zoned for building lots of one acre or less, according to the New Canaan Highway Department.Residents in those areas are requested to rake all of their leaves into the curb and not to put leaves in plastic bags or mix them with brush or debris. At-Risk Bridgeport Youth To Build Housing Thanks To $1M Grant To WorkPlace BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Bridgeport students will construct at least two units of low-income housing, while earning their high school diplomas or GEDs and learning core construction skills.This construction project was made possible by a $1.098 million federal YouthBuild grant.
