Stamford Sixth-Grader Wins Maple-Flavored Teen Chef Challenge STAMFORD, Conn. -- Rylie Emma Walker, a sixth-grade student from Stamford, was voted as the winning chef, at the First County Bank Teen Chef Challenge, during the Maple Sugar Festival Weekend, March 5-6. Walker competed against seven other talented teen chefs to create the best-tasting recipe using maple syrup, as judged by the public and five celebrity judges. Walker won with her maple meatballs and maple blinis and was invited to return in 2017 as a celebrity judge. The competition took place at the Stamford Nature Center & Museum, 39 Scofieldtown Rd.

Born in Middletown, Salvati had been a resident of Dutchess County since 1978. He worked as a glazier for 25 years, before opening his own business in 2003, Mid Hudson Glass in Poughkeepsie. "He was very grateful to all his customers, many of whom became special friends over the years," according to information from the funeral home. Lodi Special-Needs Girl Scouts Learn Lessons About Water LODI, N.J. — Girl Scouts from the Felician School in Lodi learned about water with representatives from Suez Water, in Paramus. Suez, formerly United Water, went onsite at the school and gave a lesson about how people use water in their everyday lives. The girls made bracelets with beads that represented different topics concerning water. They also received information on water-saving tips. At the end of the program the girls were able to add another badge to their uniforms. The program is one of several Suez brings to classrooms and community groups about water. Glen Rock Arboretum Sets Kickoff Fundraiser, Aims For $40K GLEN ROCK, N.J. -- The Friends of the Glen Rock Arboretum have already raised more than $85,000, but intensive fundraising is still needed, and the group is having a Thielke Arboretum 2016 Kickoff Event on Thursday, April 7. As reported in the Daily Voice in February, the Glen Rock Council voted down a $238,000 bridge loan that would have helped fund the Thielke Arboretum Education Center.
