Bridgeport Schools Getting Close To Closing Budget Gap -- But Another Looms
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The Bridgeport school district's budget deficit of almost $6 million is close to filled, Marlene Siegel, the district's CFO said -- not through through magic, but by hard work. "It's called fiscal management," she said, as the Connecticut Post reported.
Siegel said a hiring freeze accounted for $1.6 million of the deficit-filling, $2.4 million was from the insurance reserve, and the rest through mechanisms like teacher vacancies and more assertive Medicaid billing, as reported by the Connecticut Post.
