Michael T. Jodice, 54, Former Suffern Resident
SUFFERN, N.Y. -- Michael T. Jodice, a Weehawken, N.J., resident formerly of Suffern and Pompton Lakes, N.J., died Tuesday, Jan. 26. He was 54.
Born in Jersey City, Jodice retired in 2010 as a sergeant after 19 years with the Weehawken Police Department. He was also a member of the New Jersey PBA.
Jodice is survived by his parents, Salvatore and Rosemarie Jodice; his wife Dorothy, (Supple) Jodice; a son, Michael Jodice; his brothers, Donald and Richard; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

GARFIELD, N.J. -- Irene Mildred (Wywial) Malec, a Garfield resident, formerly of Wallington, died Tuesday, Jan. 26. She was 86.
Born in Passaic, Malec was a secretary for Hoffman-LaRoche in Nutley for 24 years. She retired in 1985.
She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Garfield, a member of the Holy Name Church Seniors and the Garfield AARP Chapter 2470. Malec was an avid bowler for the Roche bowling league and loved making ceramics.

Evelyn C. Kearney, 83, Rutherford Resident
RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Rutherford resident Evelyn C. Kearney died Tuesday, Jan. 26. She was 83.
Born in Jersey City, she'd lived in Rutherford since 1972. Kearney worked at St. Peter's College in Jersey City for 22 years before retiring in 1994.
She enjoyed cooking and shared many years with her husband, entertaining their family and friends. She loved to read and do crossword puzzles.
Kearney was predeceased by her husband, Donald Kearney; her parents, Joseph and Evelyn O’Rourke; and he sister, Joan Jones.

John 'Jack' I. Lashway, 85, Rhinebeck Resident
RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- Rhinebeck resident John "Jack" I. Lashway died Monday, Jan. 25. He was 85.
Born in Plattsburg, Lashway was a correctional officer at the Green Haven Correctional Facility in Stormville. He retired in 1986, after 26 years of service. In his younger years, he was a deputy sheriff in Schoharie County.
Lashway loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. In his retirement, he did wildlife artwork. He loved to travel, especially in the western United States.

Joseph 'Bobby' Travers, 70, Maywood Resident
MAYWOOD, N.J. -- Joseph "Bobby" Travers, a Maywood resident, formerly of the Bronx, died Tuesday, Jan. 26. He was 70.
Before retiring, Travers worked for the New York Board of Education as a Spanish teacher at JHS Wade 117X. He was also a member of a doo-wop group, the Esquires.
He "was an animal lover, especially his four-legged friends, Lexie, Pepper, Lucky, Baby and Cookie," according to obituary information from the Vander Plaat Memorial Home. "He had a long-standing relationship with his cockatrice Petey."

MONTVALE, N.J. -- Montvale resident Lawrence William Maher died Saturday, Jan. 23. He was 65.
Maher is survived by his wife, Evie; children William Maher, Joseph Maher, Devorah Auriemma and Heather Maher; and grandchildren Ella, Dominic and Patrick.
The family began sitting shiva at the Maher residence Thursday and will continue from noon to 4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Before retiring, Celletti was was a manager for Pomptonian Inc. in Cedar Grove. She was a former member of Laryngectomy Club at Gilda’s House in Hackensack.

PARAMUS, N.J. -- Marilyn Carrock Gaal -- a Raleigh, N.C. resident, formerly of Paramus, Hillsdale and Stockholm -- died on Sunday, Jan. 24. She was 49.
She was born in Teaneck and raised in Paramus. Gaal was a dedicated social worker who worked with developmentally disabled persons, and a medical assistant. Gaal was also an avid member of Odyssey Gym in Waldwick and Lifetime Fitness, in Raleigh.

WALDWICK, N.J. -- Waldwick resident Joseph Fred Lux died Tuesday, Jan. 26. He was 81.
Lux made many contacts through his personal income tax service, which he offered in Waldwick for 30 years. He especially enjoyed his home in the Poconos and his membership in Activities Unlimited.
