POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Elizabeth T. "Betty" Szanto, of Poughkeepsie, died on Tuesday, Feb. 16. She was 76.
Born in Beacon, Szanto graduated from St. Mary's School and Wappingers Central School. She also graduated from the Hudson River State Hospital School of Nursing and received her master's in education at Columbia University Teachers College.
Szanto had worked at Vassar Bros. Hospital, and she was also an associate professor and nurse instructor at Dutchess Community College.

Haiganouch Magarian, 96, Fairfield Resident
FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Haiganouch Magarian, of Fairfield, died on Tuesday, Feb. 16. She was 96.
Born in Turkey, Magarian and her family immigrated to Syria during the Armenian Genocide. She owned and her husband were fabric wholesalers in Beirut, Lebanon, for over 15 years. She was 65 when she moved from war-torn Beirut. After moving to Connecticut, she learned how to drive -- and continued until she was 90.
Magarian graduated from an English language program and took French classes, to stay fresh on her French. She also discovered a love of watercolor painting. She was also an avid crafter. …
Jonathan M. Lawrence, 30, Mahwah Resident
MAHWAH, N.J. -- Mahwah resident Jonathan M. Lawrence died on Tuesday, Feb. 16. He was 30.
Born and raised in Mahwah, Lawrence lived in New Zealand, Canada, Boston and Florida before moving back to Mahwah. He enjoyed traveling and visiting his parents in Florida, along with their friends in Olde Hickory.
He was an avid skier, had eclectic musical taste and enjoyed playing cards, especially poker. "Jonathan loved animals but none more than his cat Peanut and his dog Bucky," according to information provided by the Vander Plaat Funeral Home.

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford resident Gladys Carr "Snookie" Studwell died on Tuesday, Feb. 16. She was 85.
Born in Stamford, Studwell graduated from Sacred Heart Academy of Stamford class of 1948. She worked at Sonitrol/Westec for 27 years.
Studwell was a member of St. Mary's Rosary Society and the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. She was an avid fan of the New York Mets, UCONN basketball and Notre Dame football.

Born on England, Smith came to America after marrying her husband, Edward Smith. She was employed at Big Ben and as a babysitter for many years.

Born in Stamford, deGarmo graduated from Stamford High School. She trained as a nurse at the Greenwich Hospital School of Nursing.
